STRP Scenario #19 | Eindhoven, Netherlands | April, 2022
“Showcased at STRP, Counter Consideration is a playful hybrid experience produced by Affect Lab and Faye Kabali-Kagwa, featuring the work of five African artists. Invoking the spirit of the transistor radio, audiences are invited to physically move between multiple audio channels while dropping into various sonic realities ranging from flash fiction, vibrant soundscapes, intimate conversations, and tales of techno culture. .” – Affect Lab
As Aluta Null, my work served as the visual art and design that formed the gamified, online radio, in addition to the intimate audio conversation breaking down my views on time, and my fascination and artistic practice that deal with framing old and broken technology in new contexts, and recycling and reviving the relevance of unusable objects that have become largely obsolete amongst present-day technology.
“Counter Consideration was born out of a curiosity for alternative narratives about our relationship with technology. Countering more dominant Western narratives of excess and techno surplus, we consider the radical creativity of African artists and the importance of the oral tradition.” – Affect Lab
