WATER AND WHISKEY

Chaos looms in this 8-minute-long audio-visual project made in collaboration with South African independent music artists. WATER AND WHISKEY IS a virtual reality simulation where you succumb to the inebriating effects of alcohol, created and designed by Aluta Null. You dip in and out of an ethanol-filled consciousness. You are made aware of the destructive and debilitating effects of the alcohol binge you are battling to escape. Perception and fragility are placed at the forefront of WATER AND WHISKEY. This project is supported by the Unity Charitable Fund, a fund of Tides Foundation. This grant was managed by Electric South.

Sound designer Ulysses At Sea grabs you from the start as his atmospheric production guides you through the introduction and makes appearances throughout the project. This is the calm before the storm.
While awake and on the cusp of sobriety, South African music artists Roho and Amarafleur respectively lend their angelic voices in WATER AND WHISKEY. They present two contrasting expressions: Amarafleur calls the liquor closer and encourages you to indulge whereas Roho speaks of the fragility of this fight and succumbing to it.
Hip hop artists rometheblack and Uchi respectively welcome you to the dark side as you dip deeper into inebriation. Their jovial music embraces this distorted state and both artists speak of the decisions this state leads to and the effects that they are feeling. The 3D assets are a combination of free assets from Sketchfab.com and objects sculpted myself.
