'1989 (Null's Version)' is an augmented reality effect originally created in 2020 using Spark Studio and published on Meta. The version shown here is the 2024 revision. The effect allows users to interact with a customized, old floating Gameboy (reimagined as brand "Null") within their own space with the aid of a plane tracker. The title nods to Taylor Swift’s self-remix approach, offering a fresh take on a classic.

In this version, the pink Gameboy's screen displays a pixelated camera feed, adding a personal twist that highlights the social aspect of the AR experience. As the user moves the Gameboy around, it blends seamlessly with their surroundings, merging the virtual and physical worlds.

'1989 (Null's Version)' is part of my DEAD THINGS series, where I explore old, broken, or seemingly obsolete tech and reinterpret it through modern lenses like augmented reality.

The 3D Gameboy model was obtained as a free asset on Sketchfab.com and was further altered and blended with my own additions and changes using Blender and Krita.
