FREE THE ROBOTS (2020) by Aluta Null
FREE THE ROBOTS is an augmented reality effect created for Meta Social. The version shown here is the 2024 revision. The user’s head is removed and, using a face-tracker, a large television replaces the head, moving with their real movements. The AR shows visual digital static on the television screen. The effect likens humans to machines, although the emphasis is on the brain and head not being properly functional and free from the noise of the media and pop culture consumption. The user is depicted as a cyborg zombie, numb to the real world and controlled by the TV and those in the media and pop culture who control the TV (media for the masses).
