This is a brief look at my augmented reality created for social media platforms - most commonly understood as filters and effects. In this avenue in my art, I strongly tie conceptual meanings to my work in interactive and seemingly lighthearted and fun ways. Some deal with heavier subject matter than others, but a common thread is my careful engagement with what I'm creating, why, and for who.
My social AR work primarily started through my urge to create interactive art for social media. I very quickly became fascinated with my growing understanding of how to combine powerful stories and ideas with easily-accessible immersive technologies.
I quickly garnered impressive analytics and feedback from users that helped me understand my broader mission. While I enjoyed applying my absurdist and punk thoughts and visions to social media AR and filters, I soon understood the importance of blending my own desires with those of the users. This understanding of my own vision and that of my users has made working with clients in this space one of my strongest skills.
When making social AR I now very strongly hone in on assessing trends and conventions and creatively fitting my voice into creations that align with these. Whether purely visual and fun, or thoughtful and critically-engaged, social AR has given me an interesting avenue to express myself in ways that connect my ideas and immerse people into my stories in ways that are difficult to do in other media.
