EM0T10NAL 1NSTAB1L1TY (2024)

'EM0T10NAL 1NSTAB1L1TY' is a digital artwork that explores the shifting and fragmented nature of emotions and perception. This is expressed through the gallery-esque showcase of three rotating 3D cubes, each one holding a part of my face — eyes, nose, and mouth — constantly spinning and reconfiguring. Disassembling and reassembling, in constant motion. As the cubes align and misalign, they create a mixture of expressions that reflect the instability of many human feelings.
The initial inspiration for this came from Sergeeva Svetlana's 'Identikit', which made me think about emotions in a very physical and tangible way. This take on emotions is really different from how I tend to think about, and approach making art about, such an abstract part of the human experience. The 3D cube is one of the simplest forms in three-dimensional space. This simple shape, wrapped in my digital skin and face contrasts the complexity of what’s being expressed. This minimalist approach adds a visual tension between inner emotions and how they are outwardly perceived. The work uses a display of mangled, shifting facial expressions to convey a calm yet chaotic representation of identity and expression in today’s hyper-digital world.
